A winner has been decided in one of the most recent poker tournaments to hold the online gambling community’s attention, as a French businessman manages to step in and take the World Poker Tour title in Romania, winning the Bucharest event from a field of 161 other players. The group that showed to play the tournament included not only a growing group of representative players for the Eastern European Poker community, but also quite a few show-ups from the internet casino world as well. Guillaume Darcourt withstood all of them, however, winning the Romanian Bucharest event for the honor, money, and ticket to this year’s World Poker Tour Championships in Las Vegas. The 37-year old business managed to surprise quite a few in the online gambling circuits who expected one of the better-known professional poker players to find themselves the last at the table. The Bucharest event was principally sponsored by the online gambling website Gamebookers, and took place in the Novotel Bucharest City Center Hotel. The final table consisted of an unusually small six players, who were moved to a new location for the final showdown, complete with a live audience for an extra edge of pressure and excitement. One hundred and sixty one players showed up for the game, each buying in for a steep price of €3,000 plus €300 for the Main Event. The prize pool of €449,450 managed to stretch out to pay 18 places. In the end, Darcourt managed to survive his heads up against the well known online poker player Simon "Schnibl0r" Münz, a respected name in his home land of Germany as well as the internet casino community for his action and wins at Poker Strategy.com. For his efforts, he walked with €125,846 in prize money, as well as a seat at the Bellagio World Poker Tour finale, a seat in and of itself worth $25,000. |
