The online gambling company Betclic is back in the industry news this week with the announcement that the firm has signed a contract to span over two years with the top Italian soccer team Juventus. The opportunity is being hailed as an excellent selection in terms of potential for both exposure and marketing, as Juventus is one of the leading teams for the home nation of Italy.

Betclic, itself a subsidiary of the Mangas Gaming group of online casino companies, has been on the subtle hunt for a sponsorship contract for some time, making a careful selection with the Juventus team. The deal signed just this week will partner the pair for the next two seasons, giving Betclic a generous blanket of exposure to the football team’s fan base. Because of the current laws in France, where Betclic and Mangas Gaming is based out of, the opportunities to advertise freely, or even broach sponsorship deals is severely limited. Many expect that to change with the implementation of the recently approved bill to liberalize online gambling to foreign operators in France.

There are some in the internet gambling community to believe the deal to be worth as much as €16 million, though the details of the agreement have not been released to the press. The president for the football club, Jean-Claude Blanc, said in a statement, "In a very difficult economic context we have identified an international partner of primary standing with which to put into practice an innovative commercial strategy which shares the rights of the first and the second jersey." The team is also looking for a major investor who would finance the building of their new stadium. The old one, named Stadio Delle Alpi, was already destroyed. The land available for the new stadium, which will be named after its benefactor, will be ready by June of 2011.
