When Harrah’s announced last year that they would be entering into the online gambling market, branching out from their domination of the land casinos in Reno and especially Las Vegas, it took the industry by surprise and storm as many experts wondered what sort of special circumstances would develop from the US company entering a market largely prohibited by the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006. One of those fallout conditions came to a dramatic light this week as the internet casino company 888.com confirmed that in order to pursue their developing business-to-business relationship with Harrah’s Interactive, they would be subjecting themselves to a close examination by the Nevada Gaming Board. 888.com was one of the companies that allowed US gamblers entry and use of their internet casinos prior to the passage of the UIGEA; it will be the first such examination for a firm that does no business with American gamblers since the law change. 888.com has agreed to the examination in order to continue their business practices with Harrah’s overseas; the two companies have partnered to operate three different online casino ventures, all directed towards the UK market. The determination will need to be made whether 888 Holdings – Dragonfish is cleared for ‘suitability’ or not, though most expect there to be no issues with the company, as large, trustworthy and successful as they are. Based out of Gibraltar, 888 Holdings has been publicly listed on the London Stock Exchange since 2005. "Harrah's, which is registered with the Nevada Gaming Commission ('NGC'), submitted to the NGC and the Nevada State Gaming Control Board an application for a finding of suitability concerning (Harrah's Interactive Entertainment's) supplier relationship with Dragonfish,” confirmed the Nevada Gaming Commission. “The application relates to state law in Nevada that covers Nevada gaming companies conducting gaming outside the state of Nevada." |
